Treatment for Anorexia Nervosa is quite essential. It is amazing to me that just 30 years back the eating disorder, anorexia nervosa, was rarely spoken about and there were few places one could go in a way to have treatment for anorexia nervosa.
Just few years back I was a high school graduate who had moved abroad after graduating and was home for one of my first visits. I’d spoken to my best friend, whom I had not noticed in a couple of years, and I asked her to meet up at the most popular restaurant that evening. I was so happy to manage to see her and so anxious to inform her about my entire life in New York.
I walked to the restaurant and looked over to our favorite table. There had been someone sitting there and I was disappointed but I kept searching for my friend. I walked through the entire restaurant and still couldn’t find her. I returned toward the most popular table and as I got closer I could not believe my eyes; it had been my best friend sitting at our table. I didn’t recognize her because she was so thin that I didn’t know it had been her until I was next to the table.
It had been 2 years since we’d graduated and I had not seen her in those two years but I was not prepared for what I saw. My friend was a lovely brown eyed woman; about 5’5″ tall and never appeared to be in either category, heavy or thin. She was always healthy looking and didn’t even remotely resemble the individual standing before me.
She could not have weighed more than 90 pounds and on her behalf 5’5″ frame she appeared to be her skin was just being stretched over her bones and that if I hugged her too tightly, she would break like glass.
My friend was suffering from anorexia nervosa and needed help. I needed to have her help right that very minute but unfortunately, she was not prepared to admit that she had a problem. I prayed she would arrive at her senses quickly, before the deadly unwanted effects from that awful disorder had a chance to take her life. Treatment for anorexia nervosa came a couple of years later and just over time, too.
She was among the lucky ones who suffered with this particular disorder and is alive today and the mother of two beautiful children because she got help.
